Jason Simontacchi On The Bob Shelton Show 2-28-11

Former Cardinals starting pitcher Jason Simontacchi joins Bob to discuss how Wainwright's surgery and recovery will go. Jason was on the 2002 St. Louis Cardinals that tragically lost Darryl Kyle and he says its hard to compare the two because with one you lose a friend you aren't going to see again and with Wainwright and this years team, the Cards still have 4 quality starters. The death of Darryl Kyle brought the team much closer together and that there is a time in life when you need to take care of family and there is a time in life to take care of business. Baseball helped that team get on with their lives and get through the tragedy. Switching gears to this years Cardinal team, Jason thinks that McClellan can earn the spot and be a good 5th starter for the Cardinals. Pitching Coach Dave Duncan will get whoever ends up being the 5th starter for the Cardinals ready for the season because he is the best in the business.
