Pensacola To Leave American Association, Amarillo To Take It's Place
Quint Studer, owner of the Pensacola Pelicans in the American Association, today announced that he is purchasing a Class AA Southern League team to play in Pensacola in the 2012 season. Because of his efforts to get a new stadium completed in Pensacola, Studer will sell his American Association membership immediately and not participate in the league during the 2011 season. He has reached agreement with Southern Independent Baseball (SIB) to purchase the team, and SIB is expected to make application to league directors early next week to move the Pensacola club to Amarillo. SIB recently was granted a lease on the Amarillo ballpark by the Potter County (TX) commissioners.
