Busch Stadium stood for Stan on Saturday, just like many fans have been doing all year long.
In the middle of the sixth inning of the Cardinals' 1-0 win in 11 innings over the Rockies, the club recognized its greatest player in the culmination of a season-long attempt to garner the Medal of Freedom for Musial. That is the highest civilian honor the president can bestow.
Every person walking in the ballpark this morning received a foot-tall cutout of Flat Stanley Musial -- even, apparently, the Colorado Rockies.
Beaming as he made his way around Busch Stadium in the sixth inning today, Stan "The Man" Musial and his wife Lil made their scheduled appearance for Stand for Stan Day at Busch Stadium and a little Cal Ripken Jr. with a splash of Ted Williams broke out in the middle of the ceremony.
