Molina was examined in St. Louis on Thursday for continuing soreness in his right knee. General manager John Mozeliak said that no major issues were found, but that the inflammation in Molina's knee was enough that the club expects to shut down its two-time Gold Glove catcher for the rest of the season.
The euphoria over the Cardinals finally beating up on a sub. 500 team today (9-2 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates) was tempered a bit afterward with the announcement that Gold Glove catcher Yadier Molina probably is out for the season with inflammation under the patella in the area of his right knee.
Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina will likely be shut down for the remainder of the season after MLB.com reported that an MRI exam in St. Louis on his right knee Thursday showed enough inflammation to argue against playing him with the team out of the division race.
