I don't like it when a team does not give an effort. But you know what's even worse than that? When the same team tries to claim that the effort is there. But that's how manager Tony La Russa and second baseman Skip Schumaker tried to spin it Wednesday night. After the 11-6 loss at Pittsburgh, they both said there was nothing to be embarrassed about because the team is giving an effort.
