Does All-Star Representation Translate Into Regular-Season Success?

The Cardinals are sending five players — Albert Pujols, Yadier Molina, Adam Wainwright, Chris Carpenter and Matt Holliday — to the All-Star Game this year, the most of any team. Manager Tony La Russa recently remarked in jest that “Five All-Stars should mean a 10- or 15-game lead, if you had a manager who’s worth a hoot.” But does a team’s all-star representation correlate with regular-season success?
