David Eckstein had never had such an injury. Indeed, he’d never heard of it before. The strain that’s kept him out of three starts, including Friday, is to the “soleus” muscle. Also known as the smaller of two major muscles in the calf. Eckstein looked it up himself.
“I never knew I had a soleus before,” Eckstein said. “I had no clue. I didn’t know what I did … Each day since, it’s gotten a lot better. We’re just trying to be smart about it.”
