Often when a player has been cut from Major League Spring Training, he walks out of the clubhouse slowly, slumped over, looking like he's carrying a heavy weight on his shoulders. As Adam Ottavino packed up his locker on Saturday, however, he had just the opposite look. He moved lightly, freely. Ottavino was disappointed to be optioned prior to the Cardinals' game against the Marlins, but he knows well that his time in big league camp was a success.

Righthander Adam Ottavino, the Cardinals’ top draft pick in 2006, has been relatively slow in his ascension to the majors. But this spring, he posted a 2.38 earned run average in six relief outings and, though he was optioned to Class AAA Memphis today, Ottavino said he was happy about where he’s been and where he’s going.
