The plan was this: Trever Miller would retire Andre Ethier, then Ryan Franklin would get Manny Ramirez and James Loney. The Cardinals would finish what Adam Wainwright started and even the series 1-1, two major-league baseball teams would, for once, conclude a playoff game in less than three hours and we could all go watch Pam and Jim get married.
