As he sat in his home in suburban St. Louis, David Freese could barely bring himself to turn on a Cardinals game.
Doing so caused as much, if not more, of the pain that he experienced after injuring his ankle last winter when his car hit an ice patch and slid into a ditch. It was an injury that lingered into the season, eventually forcing Freese to the disabled list for an eight-week stretch.
