Ex-Cardinals Watch 8-15-09: Alexander Francisco Signs Deal; Mike Timlin Released; Jeff Suppan To Begin Rehab; Dan Haren Great Start

Veteran reliever Mike Timlin ended his comeback attempt Friday when he was released by the Rockies after being told they had no opening for him at this time on the major-league roster.

Jeff Suppan (Brewers):
Injured Brewers starter Jeff Suppan is scheduled to make a rehab start on Saturday for Class-A Appleton, and depending on the outcome could return as early as next weekend, Brewers manager Ken Macha said Friday.

Daric Barton (Athletics):
Daric Barton (strained left hamstring) made his first rehab start in Arizona on Thursday. No timetable has been set for his return.

Felipe Lopez (Brewers):
Brewers starter Yovani Gallardo followed with a two-run double down the left-field line and Lopez followed with a three-run homer, as the Brewers batted around and ended the frame up, 8-0.

Dan Haren (Diamondbacks):
Haren helped his own cause by driving in one of the runs with a single to center. Miguel Montero and Augie Ojeda also drove in runs while another scored on a wild pitch.

That was all Haren would need as he allowed just one run over eight innings. It was quite a contrast to his previous four starts in which he had a combined ERA of 6.26, but the only difference was results and not stuff.

Alexander Francisco (Bridgeport):
The Bridgeport Bluefish have inked pitcher Alex Francisco. The right-hander joins the team after appearing in 18 games for Minatitlan of the Mexican League. During that stint, he was 6-8 with a 3.89 ERA and 66 strikeouts.
