Ex-Cardinals Watch 8-13-09: Josh Phelps Signs Deal; Michel Hernandez & Chris Duncan Outrighted; Sidney Ponson Released; Rick Eckstein Suspended

Jamie Moyer (Phillies):
So Dave Allen over at FanGraphs recently picked up on something I’d noticed back in May, which is that Jamie Moyer is throwing a heck of a lot more fastballs than his usual norm. Which is not a good thing when your fastball maxes out at about 82 mph.

To address one of the issues floating around the Moyersphere in the wake of his angry comments yesterday, yes, his contract is laden with incentives based on innings-pitched and appearanced. But no, the team was not likely in any way influenced by money when it decided to bump Moyer out of the rotation.

Outrighted to Triple-A Pawtucket.

Double-A Chattanooga placed him on thge 7-day disabled list.

Stuart Pomeranz (New Jersey):
The New Jersey Jackals of the Can-Am League activated him from the disabled list.
