Pitcher Brad Thompson of the St. Louis Cardinals has received a three-game suspension and an undisclosed fine for intentionally throwing a pitch in the head area of David Wright of the New York Mets during the bottom of the sixth inning of the Wednesday, August 5th game at New York's Citi Field. Bob Watson, Vice President of On-Field Operations for Major League Baseball, made the announcement.

Though Cardinals righthander Brad Thompson did not make contact with New York Mets third baseman David Wright on a pitch near the latter's head Wednesday, nor was Thompson kicked out of the game, baseball discipline czar Bob Watson thought the pitch was dangerous enough to warrant a three-game suspension for Thompson.
