Ex-Cardinals Watch 7-31-09: Jeff Suppan Hits D.L; Robinson Cancel Called Up; Russell Branyan Misses Another Game

Scott Rolen (Blue Jays):
The Reds' talks with the Blue Jays about third baseman Scott Rolen have failed to progress.

Asked to characterize the negotiations, one source said, "Going nowhere. Stuck. Impasse."

The impasse could break if the Jays trade Roy Halladay. At that point, they would concede the 2010 season and likely move Rolen and other veterans.

Another source says the chances of Rolen going to the Reds are "50-50," adding, "Not dead."

David Eckstein (Padres) & Adam Kennedy (Athletics):
Twins could look at them instead of Orlando Cabrera.

Several of the A's other experienced players have been mentioned in trade rumors this week. Why isn't Adam Kennedy a hot commodity?
SF Gate

There’s a belief that the Twins might look toward David Eckstein or Adam Kennedy for middle infield help. The front office feels the heat about making a deal. While I doubt they will make an impact trade, they might make a move just to show they did SOMETHING.

Jeff Suppan (Brewers):

Robinson Cancel (Mets):
Omir Santos started both games of the doubleheader, as Brian Schneider's knees made him mostly unavailable. Because the Mets had two games Thursday, they summoned catcher Robinson Cancel from their Triple-A Buffalo team. To create a vacancy for Cancel, the club designated pitcher Elmer Dessens for assignment. Cancel, who spent much of last season with the Mets, was batting .218 with nine RBIs in 193 at-bats with Buffalo.
