Felipe Lopez (Brewers):
A little more on the thought process behind the Felipe Lopez deal...

The Diamondbacks saw Lopez as being on the cusp of ranking as a Type B free agent, but the more important question was whether they would have been willing to offer him arbitration. (You must offer arbitration -- and the player must decline and sign elsewhere -- in order to collect the supplemental pick.)

It didn't take long for Felipe Lopez to make history.

What Brett Tomko saw as a lack of opportunity, the Yankees saw as a cost of doing business.

Braden Looper (Brewers):
Looper threw seven shutout innings, giving up just four hits. After surrendering eight runs combined in his last two starts, the right-hander had his first start without surrendering a run since April 22.

David Eckstein (Padres):
It doesn't appear that Padres second baseman David Eckstein will need a few games in the Minor Leagues to test the right hamstring he strained earlier this month.

Jamie Moyer (Phillies):
Phils left-hander Jamie Moyer has enjoyed some of that success. Moyer, who starts Wednesday, is 3-0 with a 3.44 ERA in his previous three starts. He allowed one run in 6 1/3 innings against the Mets on July 4, six runs in five innings against the Reds on July 9 and no runs in seven innings against the Marlins on Thursday.

Jack Wilson (Pirates):
After missing Tuesday's game because of tightness in his left hamstring, shortstop Jack Wilson may sit out Wednesday's series finale against the Brewers for precautionary measures.

Sidney Ponson (Royals):
Royals starter Sidney Ponson, just off the disabled list, was tagged for six runs on eight hits in his five-plus innings. Included was Mike Napoli's leadoff home run in the sixth, a drive that carried 409 feet over the left-field wall.

Alexander Francisco (Minatitlan):
The Petroleros de Minatitlan of the Triple-A Mexican league placed him on the inactive list.

Brian Esposito (Astros):
Triple-A Round Rock sent him back down to Double-A Corpus Christi.

Brandon Buckman (Free Agent):
The Newark Bears of the Atlantic League released him. He played in 34 games going 31-for-122 (.254) with four doubles, three home runs, 11 RBIs, 13 runs, four walks, one stolen base, 21 strikeouts, .361 SLG, .283 OBP, and committed seven errors.

Terry Evans (Angels):
The Angels optioned pitcher Sean O'Sullivan back to triple-A after Tuesday night's game and recalled outfielder Terry Evans, who is batting .290 with 19 homers and 66 RBIs in 93 games. Though O'Sullivan improved to 3-0 with a win in the nightcap, the Angels, who have two off days in the next two weeks, won't need a fifth starter until Aug. 8. And with Juan Rivera slowed by a tight right hamstring, they needed some outfield coverage.
