Cardinals Scouting Athletics

Several teams have scouts in attendance for this series against Minnesota.

The Giants and the Detroit Tigers are known to have at least a degree of interest in A's left fielder Matt Holliday.

The Yankees have had scouts following the A's recently, and the Atlanta Braves and the St. Louis Cardinals also have been linked to Holliday.

Teams also might take an interest in shortstop Orlando Cabrera, whose .382 average in July led the American League entering Tuesday.

Cabrera, like Holliday, can be a free agent at season's end.

Monday, A's General Manager Billy Beane said the trade market had yet to pick up steam with the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline approaching.

"This is certainly the time of year you'd expect to both make calls and receive calls," he said. "But I wouldn't say the intensity is there that I'd expect. Maybe later in the week or certainly the beginning of next week."
