Cardinals: They pretty much have given up on third baseman Troy Glaus' return from offseason shoulder surgery. That heightens the need for an impact bat, preferably a third baseman with versatility. Houston's Miguel Tejada and Cleveland's Mark DeRosa are legitimate possibilities, as is Colorado's Garrett Atkins if he starts hitting (that could be tough because he has lost his starting job). Prediction: The Cardinals will be players in the Matt Holliday talks. How does outfielder Ryan Ludwick, reliever Jason Motte and maybe a prospect sound? For the Cardinals, pretty good as long as they know they can re-sign the free-agent-to-be Holliday.
