Tony LaRussa Suing Twitter For Trademark Infringement

Apparently, the Tweets stop with Tony. St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony La Russa is suing the micro-blogging and social networking site Twitter, Inc., over what the skipper and his attorney describe as trademark infringement, cybersquatting and misappropriation of likeness and name.

As I reported last month, Twitter may be one of the greatest tools available for social networking. But, as I also reported, the capacity to have impostors is very real. In the first day, I decided to follow “Peter Angelos” and “Theo Epstein” who are not, in fact, the real individuals. Both had images of the baseball execs, but when reading through the Tweets, it was clear that neither were the real deal.

Cardinals manager Tony La Russa filed suit against the social networking internet site Twitter.com last month, claiming that a page on the site that falsely used his name caused him to suffer "significant emotional distress [and] damage to reputation," the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported Thursday.
