Ex-Cardinals Watch 6-5-09: Cesar Izturis Has Surgery; Alberto Castillo Called Up; Kelvin Jimenez Outrighted; Scott Rolen Healthy & Hitting

The Orioles are reporting that shortstop Cesar Izturis has appendicitis and will undergo surgery tonight.

Shortstop Jack Wilson is back in the lineup after missing a game due to a stomach virus.

Alberto Castillo (Orioles):
To take his place on the roster, the Orioles recalled left-handed reliever Alberto Castillo, who had a 3.09 ERA in 24 appearances for Triple-A Norfolk, and had held left-handed hitters to a .209 average.

Scott Rolen (Blue Jays):
Third baseman Scott Rolen may not have a home run since May 5, but that doesn't bother Blue Jays manager Cito Gaston. With Rolen's defense and his ability to hit for average, Gaston is pleased with Rolen's contribution to the team, even if the long balls aren't there.

Jeff Suppan (Brewers):
For the Brewers to remain at the top of the tight National League Central, they are going to need their starting pitching to continue to keep their high-powered offense in games and relieve pressure from a bullpen that has been overworked in recent games. A key cog in that rotation, Jeff Suppan, started the 2009 season strong but has cooled off of late.
