Ex-Cardinals Watch 5-9-09: Adam Kennedy & Brett Tomko Called Up, J.D. Drew Still Hurting, Jeff Weaver Looks Ahead To 2nd Start

Adam Kennedy (Athletics):
The Athletics selected the contract of infielder Adam Kennedy and recalled right-hander Jeff Gray from Triple-A Sacramento on Saturday. In order to clear space on the 25-man roster, Oakland also optioned infielder Gregorio Petit to Sacramento, while designating outfielder Ben Copeland for assignment.

Jeff Weaver (Dodgers):
Jeff Weaver has undoubtedly been a pleasant surprise for the Dodgers this season.

J.D. Drew (Red Sox):
With his left quad barking of late, Drew got a scheduled day off, which worked reasonably well for the Red Sox because lefty Scott Kazmir was the opponent. Manager Terry Francona plans on having Drew back at his disposal for Sunday night's series finale, when nasty right-hander Matt Garza faces Boston.

Brett Tomko (Yankees):
The Yankees moved to bolster their bullpen on Saturday, purchasing the contract of veteran right-hander Brett Tomko from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and optioning right-hander Dave Robertson to the Minor Leagues.
