Ex-Cardinals Watch 5-7-09: Jason Cairns Signs Deal, Ricardo Rodriguez Released, Ron Villone Called Up, Jamie Moyer Denied Win #250

A day after watching their bullpen implode against the Dodgers, the Nationals designated left-hander Mike Hinckley for assignment and purchased the contract of left-hander Ron Villone from Triple-A Syracuse on Thursday.

Jamie Moyer (Phillies):
Moyer allowed seven runs in just 2 1/3 innings in a 7-5 loss to the Mets on Thursday night at Citizens Bank Park. It was his shortest start since May 11, 2005, when he allowed six runs in 2 1/3 innings against the Yankees.

Jason Marquis (Rockies):
Marquis' dominant stretch of starts at Coors Field finally came to end on Thursday, however, as the Rockies right-hander battled into the seventh inning in an 8-3 loss to the Giants, his first defeat in seven career starts in Denver.

Ricardo Rodriguez (Free Agent):
Was released by Saltillo of the Triple-A Mexican League. He made seven starts posting a 3-0 record and 6.75 ERA. The righty allowed 46 hits, 30 runs (26 earned), four home runs, 12 walks, and struck out 19 over 32 innings.

Juan Acevedo (Chihuahua):
Placed on the inactive list. He's made four appearances (three starts) posting a 1-1 record and 4.71 ERA. The righty has allowed 25 hits, 14 runs (11 earned), two home runs, 13 walks, and struck out 11 over 21 innings.

Jason Cairns (Traverse City):
The Traverse City Beach Bums today announced the signing of Traverse City native Jason Cairns, a right-handed pitcher.
