The St. Louis Cardinals’ bullpen was summoned a little earlier than usual for a Kyle Lohse start. Lohse, who entered tonight’s game with a 3-0 record and 1.97 earned run average, was gone shortly after he gave up a grand slam to St. Louisan Ryan Howard of the Philadelphia Phillies in the fifth inning. That made the score 6-1, Philadelphia, and the score was the same a couple innings later as four Cardinals relievers managed to strike out six of the next nine Philadelphia hitters.
