Cardinals Maintaining Offensive Prowess (Game Notes 4-23-09)

What was a very good offense a year ago may have gotten even better.

The 2008 Cardinals finished fourth in the National League with 779 runs scored, an average of 4.81 per game. Thus far in 2009, despite some nasty weather and tough assignments, they're well ahead of that mark. The Cards have tallied 88 runs in 15 games for an average of 5.87 per game. They've rung up at least five runs in each of their past seven contests, and that may be the most noteworthy thing of all.

An unwanted trend is beginning to haunt Mets manager Jerry Manuel and his club just 2 1/2 weeks into the young season.
