Royce Ring's tenure with the Cardinals is evidently over.

The Cardinals have placed lefthanded reliever Royce Ring on waivers for the purpose of removing him from their 40-man roster. If no other major league team claims Ring, he will have the option of accepting an outright assignment to Triple-A Memphis or becoming a free agent. The Cardinals signed Ring for a $475,000 contract on Jan. 6. Ring, 28, was cast as one of those competing for a lefthanded spot in the bullpen alongside Trever Miller. Ian Ostlund and Charlie Manning were also placed in that competition.
