J.D. Drew Hit In Hand, X-Ray Show Only A Bruise

J.D. Drew was hit in the right hand this afternoon by a pitch from Pittsburgh hurler Donnie Veal, and the fragile right fielder was immediately removed from the game and sent to have x-rays.

X-rays on J.D. Drew's right hand came back negative and he has only a contusion, a Red Sox spokesperson said. Drew was hit by a pitch in the fat part of his hand, between the wrist and the bottom of the pinkie, in the fifth inning today by Pittsburgh Pirates lefthanded reliever Donnie Veal.
