When Red Bird Stadium was built in 1932 to house the St. Louis Cardinals minor league affiliate, baseball commissioner Kenesaw Mountain Landis claimed it was "the finest park in all of baseball." It was the first stadium built with permanent outdoor lights, and 76 years later they were turned off one final time as the home of professional baseball in Columbus, Ohio.
