Mark Sweeney said he strained his right hamstring while rounding first on his way to a double Monday against the Rockies. Sweeney was able to pinch-hit in the fifth inning of the opening game a four-game series with the Cubs on Thursday night, but had to have Chan Ho Park pinch-run for him when he reached base on a single.

Veteran pitcher Sidney Ponson's comeback came to an abrupt end on Friday, when the Rangers designated him for assignment before the night game against the Rays.

Part of the thrill for Clint Hurdle as he prepares to manage his first All-Star Game next month has been the opportunity to honor a man who was instrumental in his big league coaching career. On Friday, Hurdle announced that he was able to name that man, Don Baylor, as an auxiliary part of his All-Star Game coaching staff.
