Potential Early Callups

Colby Rasmus, OF, Cardinals — Rick Ankiel's the only serious Cardinals outfielder as the 2008 season opens, so if Rasmus can stem the rising tide of his minor league strikeout rate, he could see the major leagues very quickly. Skip Schumaker doesn't hit for power, NL pitchers seem to have caught up with Chris Duncan in his second year as a full-time player and the rest of the pack is Ryan Ludwick (a 30-year-old with a .251 batting average) and Brian Barton, who might have topped out at Triple-A last year with a .264/.333/.333 line in 87 at-bats. Even if Rasmus doesn't strike out less, if he keeps that .551 slugging percentage he posted at Double-A last year, it'll be hard to keep him in the minors for long.
