Keith Hernandez On His Cardinals Career, The Modern Game, & A Mets Trade That Never Was

As someone who has co-authored a recent baseball memoir, I can tell you that for a book of this kind to resonate with the audience, the author needs to accomplish four things:

Given a chance at redemption by the 1989 Cardinals after a bout with substance abuse, Leon Durham botched the opportunity and got suspended from the major leagues for failing a drug test. At 32, his big-league career had reached rock bottom.

Rick Sutcliffe, Star Of 1984 Cubs, Says This Year's Team Is Better; Kevin Siegrist-Trevor Rosenthal

In the last 70 or so years, the Chicago Cubs’ 1984 club probably was best equipped to go to the World Series, pending, of course, further developments this year. They had won the most games in the National League at 96 and, to reach the Series, they had to win only one round, a best-of-five league championship series against a San Diego Padres team that had a terrible rotation.

Cardinals Fan Taunts The Cubs With 'Mount Chokemore' Painting

The Chicago Cubs have decades worth of material that can be used against them for taunting purposes. It's the unfortunate reality for a franchise that hasn't won a World Series championship since 1908, and it's a reality that's never lost on fans of their biggest rivals, the St. Louis Cardinals.

A New Day For Cardinals Vs. Cubs Rivalry

Before the drama begins in the late Friday afternoon shadows of Busch Stadium, let’s get one thing out of the way, putting it to the side like a worn antique that no longer fits the room. The St. Louis Cardinals are about to face the Chicago Cubs in the National League division series, and this has absolutely nothing to do with 1908, William Sianis and his billy goat, the collapse of 1969, or the black cat at Shea Stadium.
