On Thursday, the day the Cardinals were to have played their home opener, Busch Stadium wasn’t filled with fans wearing Cardinal red, and the Clydesdales didn’t trot around the warning track to “Here Comes the King.” Instead the team urged fans to stay home and stay safe during the coronavirus pandemic.

When baseball spring training camps closed officially about three weeks ago, at least some players on every team stayed around a while to work out, as best they could. But when they strongly were advised to go home, most of them did, either taking their families with them or to see their families.
On what should have been the Cardinals’ home opening day Thursday, John Mozeliak needed only four words to describe what he thinks will happen with the game this season – “We just don’t know.”
