Cardinals Trade Randy Arozarena, Jose Martinez, & Draft Pick To Rays For Matthew Liberatore, Edgardo Rodriguez, & Draft Pick

For most of the winter the Cardinals have entertained interest from other teams in their plethora of outfield bats in hopes that a trade would not just offer them talent but also clarity for their roster, and room to maneuver.

The St. Louis Cardinals announced a four-player trade with the Tampa Bay Rays this evening, acquiring top pitching prospect lefty Matthew Liberatore, minor league catcher Edgardo Rodriguez and the Rays Compensation B draft pick (66th overall), in exchange for outfielders Randy Arozarena, Josè Martínez and the Cardinals Compensation A draft pick (38th overall).

Throughout the offseason, the Cardinals have tried to reduce the redundancy in their outfield by exploring trades with teams that could give quality talent in return. A trade with the Rays on Thursday night did just that, and it could have ripple effects as the Cards head into the final month of the offseason.
