Angel Cuenca had an excellent month to start the
season leading the teams in ERA and innings pitched, and also tied in
strikeouts. Edgar Manzo quietly
had a solid June as he struck out 21 over 18.2 innings and had a 2.41 ERA. Reinys Portillo and Gustavo
Rodriguez both kept their ERA’s below two.
Ludwin Jimenez was not as strong as the above mentioned but did
receive a promotion to the states. Wilmer
Ortega struck out 17 over 17.1 innings and had a 3.12 ERA as another starting
arm to keep an eye on.

Cuenca slid a little in the second month of the season but
was still a great opener on either team.
Rodriguez was the best during the month of July only allowing one run
over 21 innings and striking out 21. Ortega
continued his strong season in July with a 1.35 ERA.

Cuenca missed a little time in the final month of the season
but still led all starters with 20 strikeouts.
Henry Gomez earned himself a spot in the rotations and was one of the
better arms in August. Portillo was the
top starter for the month with his 0.60 ERA and struck out 19 over 15
innings. Engels Martinez finally
turned things around after a rough first two months to become a help in the
rotation.

Reinys Portillo, Gustavo Rodriguez, and Wilmer
Ortega were excellent starting pitchers and make strong cases for ‘Starting
Pitcher of the Year’ but Angel Cuenca was just a tad better than all
three and will receive the award for the 2019 season.
