Cardinals lefthander Brett Cecil, who has lost his way relative to pitching rhythm and velocity after dropping 42 pounds in the off-season, will be placed on the injured list by the Cardinals and will not go north with them at the start of the season next week.

Reports from Jupiter Monday morning indicate Cardinals reliever Brett Cecil will begin the 2019 season on the injured list, the new term for the list replacing the disabled list beginning this year. Manager Mike Shildt referred to the injury as an arm issue.
