Cardinals & Adam Wainwright Agree To 2019 Contract

The St. Louis Cardinals announced today that they have agreed to terms with veteran pitcher Adam Wainwright on a one-year contract for the 2019 season. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

When Adam Wainwright stood at spring training and considered the end of his contract, he said, repeatedly, that his plan was to force the team to want him back. His season took a more scenic route than planned – winding through rehab assignments and recovery, from Springfield, Mo., to Memphis, to a playoff race in September – but the destination was the same.

As this past season wound down and Adam Wainwright made his final home start, he was asked the unavoidable question if he had thrown his last pitch wearing a St. Louis Cardinals uniform. Admitting that it could be possible, Wainwright very quickly stated he didn’t feel like that was the case, instead keeping the focus on the team’s playoff hopes and a chance to pitch again in the post season.
