In his first three at-bats Thursday afternoon, Harrison Bader, the Cardinals’ heir aspirant in center field, saw 11 pitches. Nine were breaking balls, and six of those were his allergen: the slider. He struck out swinging on a slider, took a slider that set up his second strikeout, and then, in that third at-bat, saw four pitches, all breaking balls, and he whiffed – on a slider.
