At the old ballpark in those early days of the “team within team” cohesion that defined his time atop the Cardinals’ rotation, Chris Carpenter and his fellow starters would gather in the bullpen and watch pitching, talk pitching, debate pitching, and sometimes just dig in and get a first-hand look at pitching.
