The Cardinals arrived at Busch Stadium on Thursday afternoon knowing they needed to play much better than they had in the previous two games against the lowly Marlins. They were on the verge of suffering an embarrassing three-game sweep against a franchise that has hardly bothered to camouflage a willingness to lose this season.
