The Cardinals kept in touch with the agent for closer Greg Holland throughout winter, waiting and talking just in case his asking price moved to meet their interest. They had an idea what his salary would be and they knew the draft pick they’d lose, but when the deal was finalized Saturday it came at a cost they didn’t anticipate.
