In the first month of the season, Wiliam Jimenez started off
on the right foot and was offensively on top.
If Jimenez wasn’t leading the team in a statistic, he was somewhere in
range. Cristhian Longa was your RBI
specialist with Carlos Soler, Jimenez, Raffy Ozuna, and Luis Montano not far
behind. Franklin Soto held down the
doubles while Diomedes Del Rio, Montano, and Soler had the triples. The team did rack up a lot of strikeouts and
Ozuna, DeJesus, Montano, and Soler all had 20 or more.

William Jimenez saw his AVG dip but still raked in the
doubles, triples, and RBI categories.
Freddy DeJesus bat showed power, along with Francisco Hernandez (who
signed at beginning of month). Ivan
Herrera and Pablo Gomez poked their heads through offensively seeing their AVGs
shoot well into the .300’s. Franklin
Soto led the team in hits during July.
Raffy Ozuna continued with his high strikeouts but also took on the
leader of walks, seeing his OBP shoo to the top.

In the final month, William Jimenez and Cristhian Longa both
dropped out due to injuries. Carlos
Soler and Yowelfy Rosario both exploded offensively after a slow first two
months. Ivan Herrera took over in the
OBP and AVG departments. Freddy DeJesus continued
his power stroke with a team leading three home runs and 14 RBIs. Raffy Ozuna was again the strikeout king and
racked up the walks.

This is very tough choice when looking at the overall stats
of the top hitters on the team. But my personal
selection for the 2017 Dominican Summer League Cardinals Player of the Year
goes to Raffy Ozuna. He showed that he
can put together offensive numbers across the board and not just in one
area. Although his strikeouts are
high, his other stats over shadow that compared to other players.
