On May 20, 2012, Matt Adams made his Major League debut with the St. Louis Cardinals against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Chavez Ravine, collecting two hits in four at bats. Five years later to the day, Adams was traded to the Atlanta Braves along with cash for 19-year-old Juan Yepez.
