As you know by now, Cardinals first baseman Matt Carpenter has been scratched from participating in the World Baseball Classic. The cause: tightening and discomfort in his lower back. Carpenter was looking forward to representing his country as a member of Team USA, but he made the smart decision to withdraw from the competition.
