I am not a hopeless cynic. Really, I’m not. Yes, I base much of my baseball (and sports) performance analysis on statistics and advanced metrics. The numbers help cut through the beeswax and separate fact from fiction. I like a good frothy narrative as much as anyone, but I prefer the core truth. I don’t want to get lost in a script. I want to get to the reality.
