Current & Former Cardinals Playing In World Baseball Classic 3-12-17: Carlos Beltran Doubles & Drives In One Run; Efren Navarro Doubles & Walks; Curt Smith, Donovan Solano, & George Kottaras Each Single



Curt Smith (former Springfield-Netherlands) started at first base and batted seventh.  1-for-5 with two strikeouts and assisted in two double plays.

Japan beat Netherlands 8-6 in 11 innings

Donovan Solano (former Memphis-Colombia) started at shortstop and batted leadoff.  1-for-4 with two strikeouts, one fielding error, and assisted in one double play.
Oscar Mercado (Palm Beach-Colombia) entered late in the game as designated hitter and moved to right field, batting eighth.  0-for-1 at the plate.

Dominican Republic beat Colombia 10-3 in 11 innings

Daniel Descalso (former St. Louis-Italy) started at second base and batted fifth.  0-for-4 and assisted in two double plays.

Carlos Beltran (former St. Louis-Puerto Rico) started as designated hitter and batted fourth.  1-for-3 with one double, one RBI, and one strikeout.

George Kottaras (former St. Louis-Canada) started at catcher and batted eighth.  1-for-3 at the plate.

USA Beat Canada 8-0

Efren Navarro (former Memphis-Mexico) started in left field and batted seventh.  1-for-3 with one double, one run, one walk, and one strikeout.

Mexico beat Venezuela 11-9
