The St. Louis Cardinals finished well behind the Chicago Cubs in 2016, but suddenly the Cubs look mortal. Who would’ve thought that all you needed to beat that club was a generational talent and the game’s best pitcher used repeatedly on short rest, a journeyman lefthander who’s inexplicably awesome, and one of the game’s best closers?
