It’s perhaps premature to discuss this, given the Cardinals’ tenuous grasp on a wild card spot. But with only a couple dozen games left to go in the season, it’s fairly clear that the National League Wild Card Game will feature some combination of the Cardinals, Giants, and Mets. It’s also possible that the race just to get into that winner-take-all affair will come down to the season’s final day, meaning the participants won’t be able to set up their rotation to have their preferred starting pitcher take the mound.
