Last season, when the Cardinals’ rotation led the majors with a 2.99 ERA and the staff gave up only 3.24 runs per game in a historically prominent display of run prevention, I applauded but attached a caution: while the pitching performance was amazing and great and deserving of high praise, it was also a glaring outlier that could not be repeated in 2016.
