Bryce Harper went 1 for 4 with a walk in Wednesday night’s win over the Miami Marlins, a typical night for him in the 2016 season in which he is hitting .240 and keeping pace with Paul Goldschmidt for the National League lead in walks. He slid headfirst into second base twice, both times without a close play forcing him to do so, showing no overt concern for the health of his much-discussed right shoulder. Though sliding is a largely instinctual maneuver, in both cases, Harper had time to realize he did not need to do it.
