Aledmys Diaz Vows To Honor Jose Fernandez; Matt Holliday Not Ready Yet; No Starter For Saturday Yet; Extra Bases

Cardinals shortstop Aledmys Diaz plays with considerable energy anyway. But he said he had some extra incentive now, having returned Monday night from Miami where he visited the family of boyhood friend Jose Fernandez, found dead early Sunday morning in Miami Beach, Fla., after a boating accident.

It was straight out of a storybook. After pledging before the game to play with a new level of joy and competition to honor his late friend Jose Fernandez, St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Aledmys Diaz came through with a grand slam in the 4th inning to help propel his team to a 12-5 victory over Cincinnati on Tuesday.
