The Cardinals left home On August 10 after getting battered by Atlanta and scraping out two one-run wins again Cincinnati, an underwhelming display against two of the worst teams in all of baseball. When the team headed to Chicago they were 60-54, a reflection of the frustrating lack of consistency that had plagued them all year. They ran into outs and made errors, their pitching seemed capable of disaster on any given day and the offense, while able to produce tremendous scoring outbursts, often saw high run totals wasted.
