Matt Holliday Suffered Facial Abrasian

Matt Holliday's nose was grazed by a pitch from Andrew Cashner in the sixth inning of Thursday night's series finale against the Padres. St. Louis trailed, 2-1, at the time but came back to win, 6-5, on a walk-off single from Aledmys Diaz.

The St. Louis Cardinals are breathing a sigh of relief after outfielder Matt Holliday was forced out of Thursday’s game after being struck in the face by a pitch during the 6th inning.

Veteran slugger Matt Holliday left the field early Thursday after being hit in the face by a pitch. In the bottom of the sixth inning, the outfielder stood in with a man on first and two out. He worked a 2-2 count from Andrew Cashner, but the fifth pitch of the at bat, a 95 mile per hour fastball, ran up and in.
